"The Bar Association has finally admitted what New Zealand fathers have known for a long time, by admitting that overt
gender bias is an indicator of being 'a good judge'. Finally, judicial bias on gender issues has been officially
acknowledged." Families Apart Require Equality (FARE) spokesperson Darryl Ward said today. He was referring to the
reporting of comments by Bar Association president Stewart Grieve QC, praising Justice Fisher for 'championing the cause
of women'".
"It is well known that judges are sent on gender equity training, and that gender equity is nothing to do with treating
the sexes equally, but rather that gender equity is about giving women preferential treatment based on feminist
perceptions of inequality."
"For example, 'fair division of matrimonial property' referred to by Grieve, has nothing to do with fairness, but is
PC-speak for unequal splitting of matrimonial property. This means that parents (mostly fathers), who have sacrificed
precious time they could have spent with their children so that they could work to support their families, are penalised
by a lucrative incentive for their partners to leave with the children and enjoy a greater share of the matrimonial
cake. The general public could never perceive this to be fair, but the Bar Association and Judges appears to think so".
"We call on the Bar Association and the Judiciary to renounce their policy of promoting gender apartheid and to join our
calls for both men and women to be treated equally by the law", concluded Ward.
