Young Nats Outraged by Prohibition
Call to Arrest Govt MPs

Young Nationals are shocked to learn that the Labour led government has rammed through a law making it illegal to consume or possess alcohol in public.

"This Labour led government has always been backward looking but we were shocked by this lurch to the 1930s - an era even before Jonathan Hunt had entered Parliament," Deputy Chair Grant Tyrrell said.

"In 1999 it was rumoured that Jim Anderton wanted to ban Christmas but this has gone too far," an outraged Grant Tyrrell commented. "Young Nationals do however note the irony of a Winston Peters' bill introducing prohibition and understand that the TAB are offering good odds that he will be the first to run afoul of this measure."

"This law has made a joke of Parliament as the supreme law making body and is typical of the roughshot attitude that this government has - sacrificing a fundamental constitutional tenet for short term political deal-making." "We encourage New Zealanders not to get mad but to get even. If they see any government or New Zealand First MP carrying alcohol in public, they should immediately phone the local police station and ask for the MP to be arrested," Grant Tyrrell concluded.
