~ Coalition for Peace Whangarei weekly meetings are temporarily on hold although activities will continue in the meantime; working meetings will reconvene in January or earlier if the US starts on Somalia or Iraq or others of Dick Cheney's '40 or 50 countries'. ~ THURS, 20 December - say NO to the war! make the pre-Christmas vigil for peace the biggest yet, and send the NZ government a clear message that you do not want any NZ military involvement in the 'war on terrorism', that you do not want this country to have any part in the killing of the people of Afghanistan, and the SAS are to be brought back NOW! ~ ongoing - the Nelson Peace Group are going to be wearing arm bands with an appropriate message or badge until the war ends. They will carry spares to give to people who wish to do the same.
*** CHRISTCHURCH
~ SAT, 15 December - silent half hour meditation/prayer vigil from 12-30pm to 1pm, outside the front of the Cathedral. Organised by a non-sectarian meditation group in Christchurch, who would like people of all denominations to join with them in this simple action.
~ emergency response vigil details - if the war goes
beyond Afghanistan, there will be a vigil at 5-30pm in
Cathedral Square on the day on which we are first aware of
this (ie, if the news breaks here in NZ after 5pm our time
then we will be holding the vigil the next day). For more
