The Libertarianz health deregulation spokesman Richard McGrath said the government's injection of three billion dollars
of other people's money into the state health system is an election year bribe which health providers and consumers
should treat with the contempt it deserves.
He said the three year plan to pump this money into failing hospitals was a poor substitute for total deregulation of
the health market.
"Let's examine some of the assumptions Annette King and her socialists make in throwing money at the crumbling public
health infrastructure.
"Firstly, that people are incapable of using their own money wisely in organising health care for themselves. And that
the government must take a large portion of their money to create a massive bloated health bureaucracy that oversees
waiting lists on which people die at alarming rates.
"Secondly, that charities and philanthropists would not fund health care for the poor, and nor would the families of the
less wealthy. That people are basically nasty and need to be forced into helping others.
Dr McGrath said these assumptions reflect the misanthropic view that most politicians hold toward the general public.
"Libertarianz, on the other hand, believe people should be left as far as possible in charge of their own lives and
allowed to use the money they have earned as they see fit. To even contemplate doing so would scare the bejesus out of
control freaks like Helen Clark and Annette King."
