Urgent PMA Appeal
2 November 2001
Can you help? We are desperately short of funds at this time - the immense sudden increase in our workload since 11 September has not only dramatically increased our costs, but has also caused a temporary halt to our usual fund raising efforts.
We have not even had time to send out our annual appeal letter because we are too busy - keeping people in touch, networking peace notices, writing and circulating alerts, responding to requests for information from all around the country about what's going on, and requests for advice on organising protests and writing media releases, uploading new statements and articles to our web site at least twice a week, providing speakers for peace meetings and rallies in Wellington and elsewhere, promoting the national petition calling for peaceful resolution, sending updates out internationally so that overseas peace and social justice groups know about the opposition here to the war ... and continuing to keep track of the issues we were working on before 11 September.
If you are on the PMA e-lists, you will know for yourself how vital our ongoing work is - and situations like the current war bring this into focus. If you can respond to this makeshift email appeal with a generous donation we would be most appreciative of your help. Your generosity will ensure our work for peace can continue into the future.
And giving to PMA doesn't only benefit us - you get something back too! We have charitable status, and we send tax rebate receipts for all donations. If you can help us at this time, please make your cheque payable to 'Peace Movement Aotearoa' and post it to PO Box 9314, Wellington. Please make sure you include your name and address so we can send you your tax receipt; or you can print out this message and fill in your details below.
We are taking the unusual step of circulating this appeal by email, not only because of the sudden dramatic increase in our work and costs, but also because we know that at least one group has circulated a fund raising appeal letter to all its members together with a copy of a PMA alert about the current war. Please be aware that we were not asked if our material could be used in that way to raise funds for a different organisation.
We are always happy for our material to be circulated and copied by other groups (provided PMA is credited as the author), and for you to recover any photocopying costs incurred; but we do not expect other organisations to use our work to benefit themselves.
We would be extremely happy if any of you out there wished to do a joint fund raising appeal - using our alerts to raise funds for your own group and for PMA. This can be easily arranged if you contact us, we will even write something especially for you if that is what you'd prefer!
Please respond as generously as you can to this appeal, thank you, Tim Jones and Joan Macdonald, for the PMA Working Group.
