Peace vigils, rallies and meetings...

There were more than 120 anti-war events in 20 countries as past of the International Day of Action to Stop War and End Racism on 27 October!
* WHANGAREI:
~ FRI, 2 November - peace vigil, 5pm at Cenotaph, Rose Street. Organised by the Coalition for Peace Whangarei.
~ TUES, 6 November - Coalition for Peace Whangarei meeting, 5pm at the Trade Union Centre, 7 First Avenue, all welcome. The Coalition will meet every Tuesday, same time same place, until further notice.
* AUCKLAND

~ THURS, 1 November - vigil for peace, 5pm to 6pm at the Cenotaph, and Oppose the War! march to the US embassy (cnr Fitzherbert Tce and Mulgrave Street), leaving Cenotaph at 5-30pm. ~ FRI 9 November - demonstration against militarism, meet at Midland Park at 12-30pm, then march to the Ministry of Defence (Stout St) to protest against NZ involvement in Afghanistan, part of the Wellington events for the Global Day of Action against the WTO - a day of fun, action and alternatives. ~ ongoing - the Nelson Peace Group are going to be wearing arm bands with an appropriate message or badge until the war ends. They will carry spares to give to people who wish to do the same.
* CHRISTCHURCH
~ THURS 1 November - 'Prospects for Peace with Justice' panel discussion with Keith Locke MP (Green Foreign Affairs spokesperson), Dr Najib LaFraie (former Afghanistan Minister of Foreign Affairs), Denny Anker (Green) and Gina Moss (Young Green); cup of tea from 7pm and the speakers start at 7.30pm at the Green Centre, 16 Bedford Row. ~ FRI, 2 November - No more War March and Rally, 6pm, meet at the Bridge of Remembrance, to the Square, every Friday, same time same place until further notice. ~ SAT, 3 November - silent half hour meditation/prayer vigil from 12-30pm to 1pm, outside the front of the Cathedral. Organised by a non-sectarian meditation group in Christchurch, who would like people of all denominations to join with them in this simple action.
