Peace Vigils, Rallies And Meetings

* WHANGAREI:

~ TUES, 30 October - Coalition for Peace Whangarei meeting, 5pm at the Trade Union Centre, 7 First Avenue, all welcome. The Coalition will meet every Tuesday, same time same place, until further notice.

~ FRI, 2 November - peace vigil, 5pm at Cenotaph, Rose Street. Organised by the Coalition for Peace Whangarei.

* AUCKLAND

~ THURS, 25 October - Jim Anderton speaks on his pro-war position to Alliance Party members who oppose it, 7-30pm, Trades Hall, Great North Rd, Newton.

~ FRI, 26 October - 'Share a Prayer' evening, from 6pm to 7-30pm, at the Shakti Asian Women's Centre, 138 Church St, Onehunga. All women welcome, the Women's Centre is women-only space. If you plan to attend please ring (09) 636 8512.

~ FRI, 26 October - rally at 6pm, QEII Square, organised by the Anti-War Coalition, http://www.geocities.com/aklantiwar/

~ SUN, 28 October - rally/convergence starts at 12 midday, QEII Square, rally will converge on Albert park at about 1pm, with speakers, info tables, music and other entertainment. ~ SAT, 10 November - Questioning the theology of violence: God is our refuge and strength? An all day seminar as part of the Anglican Pacifist Fellowship (NZ) national conference (9 to 11 Nov). Discussion with speakers including Professor Bill Hodge, University of Auckland Law School on A Crime or an Act of War?; Dr Chris Marshall, Lecturer at the Bible College of New Zealand on the Biblical tradition of human rights; Dr Nicola Hoggard-Creegan, Lecturer in Theology at the Bible College of New Zealand on Theological Reflections on Violence; Father Terry Dibble, parish priest and Lecturer at the Catholic Institute of Theology on Peace in a Contextual Theology. * NELSON

~ FRI, 26 October - a silent candle vigil supporting the UN Commissioner for Human Rights and other humanitarian aid organisations such as Oxfam, in calling for a halt in the bombings, 5-30pm at the Church steps, please bring candles and holders; every Friday until the bombings cease, a new letter to Helen Clark will be sent each week and will be available for signing on the Friday. ~ ongoing - the Nelson Peace Group are going to be wearing arm bands with an appropriate message or badge until the war ends. They will carry spares to give to people who wish to do the same.

* CHRISTCHURCH

~ FRI, 26 October - No more War March and Rally, 6pm, meet at the Bridge of Remembrance, to the Square, every Friday, same time same place until further notice. * DUNEDIN

~ SAT, 27 October - March against the war - 1pm gather at the Otago Museum Reserve, at 2pm rally in the Octagon with music, poetry and speakers from a range of different groups.

~ SUN, 28 October - Picnic for peace! 2pm to 4pm, in front of the band rotunda, near the duck pond in the Dunedin Botanical Gardens; family friendly, bring food and conversation/information to share. Every Sunday until further notice, organised by Peace Movement Dunedin.
