Window Dressing CYFS Wont Protect Abused Children

"Calls by Parentline to have the Child, Youth and Family Department overhauled would only be a window dressing exercise that will not solve the endemic problem of child abuse", FARE spokesperson Darryl Ward said today.

"Statistically, the safest environment for a child is when it receives love and care from both of its natural parents. Children who are denied the protection of their father are most at risk, and overseas research clearly shows this.

"Implementation of the provisions of the Shared Parenting Bill, which aims to guarantee the right of children to love and protection from both of their parents, would be an extremely effective and cheap remedy for reducing child abuse.

"A Government department like CYFS will never on balance be a satisfactory substitute for the combined love of a mother and a father.

"Overhauling CYFS, or throwing more money at the abuse industry's gravy train, will achieve little", Ward concluded.
