Clark Fiddles - Zimbabwe Burns

The situation in Zimbabwe is continuing to deteriorate by the minute, says Libertarianz Leader Peter Cresswell, "while Helen Clark and her government remain mute. A woman never known to be at a loss of words suddenly can't think of anything to say." Cresswell said: "The Marxist regime of Robert 'Madman' Mugabe is now using state power to silence a free press. Does Helen and friends approve of his actions? If not why is she pretending that none of this is happening?" asks Cresswell. "I call on her to denounce the violation of a free press by another Commonwealth government, or we must draw the obvious conclusion from her silence."

Cresswell was referring to the arrest of Geoff Nyrota, editor of Zimbabwe's Daily News: "Earlier this year the Daily News was mysteriously bombed in an attempt to silence it. Now this lunatic of the Left has arrested the editor and assistant editor because the newspaper dared to report that Mugabe's police force is helping the looting of white-owned farms." Cresswell says Mugabe's actions are just a continuation of Zimbabwe's campaign against journalists who let the world know what is happening in the disintegrating country. "Mugabe's dictatorship has been denying foreign journalists the right to report the facts and now he is working to destroy the local free press," said Cresswell.

The Libertarianz Party, said Cresswell, "opposes this ethnic cleansing campaign of the lunatic running Zimbabwe. We are just wondering where Helen and her coalition partners stand on this matter. She has become rather chummy of late with various dictators. Is Robert Mugabe just another in a growing list of tyrants that she is courting?"

The Libertarianz Party has already called on Zimbabwe's expulsion from the Commonwealth and other world bodies. "No regime," says Cresswell, "that engages in such abhorrent acts should be welcomed in respectable world circles. Mugabe is probably clinically insane. But he certainly is a monster who should be shunned."

"It is clear," says Cresswell, "that Helen wants to ignore the fact that her ideological brothers in arms are tyrants. But then they have powers that she salivates over. She's constantly looking for new ways so that her and her merry band of Marxists, Greens and crazies can take more and more power. Robert Mugabe, in her eyes, may go too far but she clearly thinks he's on the right road. That's probably why she is so mute in the face of flagrant human rights abuses by Left wing governments."

It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
