Anti-Capitalism: theory and practice

Anti-Capitalism: theory and practice.

Following on from awesome success last year, the SWO is excited to host the 2nd Anti-Capitalism conference, September 28-29th.

Last year the conference served to focus over 200 left wing activists around important issues beginning to emerge both locally and globally. It also provided a fantastic send off for the many representatives from Aotearoa on their way to the "Battle of Melbourne", the huge anti-cap blockade of the World Economic Forum.

This year we hope to build on that success. The left has much to celebrate one year on, particularly the massive growth of the movement represented by events such as in Qubec and Genoa. Not only should we celebrate these but also take the important ideas and learn the lessons to be applied here. Locally there is lots we can focus on, for example

- the results of the G.E Royal Commission- the counter movement is already shaping up in Auckland with an anti-GE march being organised for September 1st .

- the Hong Kong Free Trade agreement, being steadily being pushed along by its supporters both in and outside of Parliament.

-CHOGM, the conference will also give opportunities to mobilise solidarity activities with the scheduled blockade for this event in Brisbane and again serve as a send off for those NZ comrades making the trip.

Plus much, much more. The organisers welcome suggestions of topics and speakers. We hope to provide both panel discussions and smaller discussion or activity based workshops. All input and ideas are welcome, not to mention help with publicity and promotion.

Many groups and individuals have all ready started a fightback. The Anti-Cap conference is a chance to raise issues and awareness, share experiences, pull in support and build genuine united opposition to a system that is ignoring democracy, destroying lively hoods and raping the planet.

See you there.
