Support For Family Court

Stopping Violence Services welcomes the announcement that the Law Commission is reviewing the Courts System.
‘The Family Court in particular has recently been subject to ill informed attacks.’ Said Paul Prestidge, the Executive Officer. These have mainly been made by a small but vocal group men that have restricted access to their children because of their violence, and their supporters. ‘In our view the Family Court works well to protect the best interests of children, often where they are being used as pawns in a battle between parents. Given that these are the difficult situations where parents have separated, it would be naïve to expect the Court’s decisions to satisfy all parties.’
‘We welcome this review. While we expect the Commission to recommend some changes, we have no doubt that this review will justify our confidence in the overall integrity of the family court system. We hope to make a submission to the Review in due course.’ concluded Paul Prestidge
