New Ultra Sound Technology Has Social Implications
09 July 2001
Party Leader Graham Capill says the introduction of new ultra sound technology is “likely to have implications to challenge social norms that go well beyond medical applications.”
Commenting on the introduction this week of 4D imaging technology in Britain, which produces life-like photography of the unborn child, Mr Capill said it is likely to have an impact on behaviour and decision-making by many pregnant women.
“This technology is a major blow for the proabortion lobby. The new pictures make it clear that the unborn child is no different from any child outside the womb.
“In particular, it will make it hard for those considering abortion to lightly justify their decision as simply terminating a ‘lower’ form of life or aborting a blob of tissue. The clear pictures of a human being make the implications of a decision to abort inescapable.
“It may also affect a woman’s decision to continue to smoke or drink while pregnant.
“The reality and wonder of the little person in the womb is brought forcibly to the fore. The unborn child is now clearly seen exhibiting all the behaviours that are expected of a newborn baby. This may revolutionize decisions affecting unborn children. Mr Capill concluded.
