Waterways Nightmare Is Property Rights Disaster

Published: Fri 11 May 2001 12:35 AM
"When the productive have to ask permission to produce from the unproductive, then your culture is stuffed. Yesterday's out-of-the-blue decision from Sandra Lee to stop the Whitianga Waterways project shows us we are at that point," says Libertarianz leader and Coromandel candidate Peter Cresswell.
"The interminable hurdles that the beautiful Waterways project has faced should demonstrate to all who have eyes to see that we no longer have property rights in this country. Property rights have been nationalised by the Resource Management Act, and in the Hauraki Gulf by the Maritime Park Act," says Cresswell, his party's spokesman to deregulate the environment. Cresswell and the Libertarianz have been calling for the RMA to be dumped for several years. "The evidence to justify this call is, by now, overwhelming," says Cresswell.
"And what of the Coromandel's Green MP," he says. "Even as Hooper Brothers are being stung by Sandra Lee, on the very day as this disgraceful decision was made, Coromandel MP Jeanette Fitzsimons says that her committee will be recommending even more draconian changes to the Resource Management Act. She calls this a victory for common sense! If this is common sense then I'm a catfish," says Cresswell.
"Let's get these stupid, unproductive women out of our lives," he says. "Let's dump the RMA and its coercive cousin, the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Act as soon as possible."
It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
