Employers Federation Dump On Taxpayers

Published: Wed 2 May 2001 02:37 PM
"Am I reading this correctly?" asked Libertarianz Deputy Leader Richard McGrath earlier today as he pored over yesterday's press statement from the Employers Federation saying 'Employers pleased at government parental leave decision.'
"For a moment there I thought the stupid scheme had been dumped," added McGrath, "and that freedom-loving people up and down the country were rejoicing at its demise. Instead, I'm horrified to learn that an organisation claiming to represent employers is applauding the fact that taxpayers will now have to foot the bill. It's another example of business' appalling eagerness to accept corporate welfare from a government eager to buy their acquiescence."
"Libertarianz are disgusted at the Federation's attitude," McGrath says. "Our party has been at the forefront of organised opposition to the concept of paid parental leave because we believe in the unfashionable idea of facing up to one's financial responsibilities. The Employers Federation are only interested in shifting the burden of this insane breeding subsidy onto other people."
Dr McGrath called for a boycott of the Employers Federation by any of its members who believed that sticking to principles was more important than buck-passing. "The Federation don't care what happens to taxpayers. They're not interested in the effect this will have on low-paid wage and salary earners. I find their attitude frankly revolting."
It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
