Ecoaction
On Tuesday May 1, 2001 Victoria University's Ecoaction will be demonstrating against the proposal of Hutt City Council, Wellington City Council and Wellington Regional Council to transfer the management of our water services to a trust. The main focus of this demonstration will be the auction of the Cuba Mall bucket fountain at 2pm. Ecoaction is opposed to the formation of a trust as the trust will lack transparency and the trustees will be appointed, not elected. Although the councils say that privatisation is not an issue at present this will change, particularly if the NZ government signs to the World Trade Organisations General Agreement on Trade and Services.
