A Return To "Carless Days"?
The Education Review Office has gone beyond satire with its pathetic politically correct advice on 'trikeless days' at a Lower Hutt kindy," says disgusted Libertarianz leader Peter Cresswell, who is his party's spokesman to deregulate early childhood education.
If they believe that trikes encourage competitiveness, ownership and aggression then they must also believe the same of their own big kids' toys," he says, suggesting that the ERO bureaucrats set an example by imposing 'carless days' on themselves. "Or perhaps they could simply go the whole way by imposing 'crap-free' days for the next 365, and get out of the way of early childhood centres already overburdened with bureaucratic crap."
"Far from deriding competitiveness, and acquisitiveness, we should be encouraging these virtues among children," he says, saying: "We need achievers, not losers."
Libertarianz would free up early learning centres from the petty and time-consuming bureaucratic requirements that governments impose upon them, but in the meantime Cresswell says he looks forward to the ERO trying to ban posters of Tiger Woods. "After all, we mustn't praise somebody who so thoroughly embodies the virtue of success! Must we?"
