PM Receives Waitangi Day Invitation

Published: Tue 30 Jan 2001 11:07 AM
Prime Minister Helen Clark has finally received an official Waitangi Day invitation.
The Young Nationals have invited her to a “BBQ and a few beers” in Wellington. Young Nationals Chair Daniel Gordon said that as a compassionate conservative, he felt obliged to invite Ms Clark to the party at “my mate Phil’s place.”
“I feel sorry for Helen Clark that she has nowhere to go. Even though I’ve received an official invite to Waitangi from Nga Puhi, I’m willing to stay in Wellington and show her a good time.
“We have warned Ms Clark though that there may be poor people, and possibly vagrants, in the neighborhood,” said Mr Gordon. The warning comes after Ms Clark previously objected to poor people living in her street.
As yet Ms Clark has not responded to the invitation, but is understood to be considering it seriously.
