NZ Nuclear Free Zone Submissions

Submissions for the NZ Nuclear Free Zone Extension Bill - deadline extended again.

Due to the work before the Select Committee, the NZ Nuclear Free Zone Extension Bill is unlikely to be considered until next year. Therefore the closing date for submissions on the Bill has been extended until at least mid-December.

If you have not yet made a submission on the Bill, or if you already have but would like to add supplementary information to your submission, it would be great if you could do that now - we understand that there have only been a limited number of submissions made on the Bill.

For more information about the Bill, you can check out the PMA briefing at

For more detailed material, including existing domestic law which gives a precedent for excluding vessels from the Exclusive Economic Zone, check out the WILPF submission at:

** To make a submission - you need to send twenty copies to David Sanders;

* to send supplementary information to add to your original submission - you need to send twenty copies to David Sanders with a covering letter stating it is supplementary material to your submission (and clearly identifying your original submission!);

* if you wish to appear before the Committee to speak to your submission, you should indicate that in a covering letter to be sent with your submission, together with your daytime telephone number.

All correspondence, submissions, and supplementary information should be sent to David Sanders, Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Select Committee, Bowen House, Parliament Buildings, Wellington or fax (04) 499 0486.
