Welcome to New Zealand, Helen
Last week, Police Minister George Hawkins advised shop owners not to defend themselves against armed thugs, and instead to give them whatever they want. This week Helen Clark says she's concerned about her safety in her own home. Says Libertarianz leader Peter Cresswell: "She is not the only one! Welcome to New Zealand, Helen!"
"Many thousands of New Zealanders, denied the right to defend themselves by this government, are concerned about their safety," he says. "Many home owners and shop proprietors would like to arm themselves in protection against the thugs but are unable to; they are made defenceless by the law. They know the police are unable to protect them, and are angry that they are not allowed to do that job themselves."
"It's a bit rich," he says, "for Helen to complain about her own security when she disallows other New Zealanders the capacity to protect themselves - her chickens now are surely coming home to roost."
