Smokesfree Sponsored Smokers Day Out ...
Press Release
Media Advisory: National Street Event for Weekend 2,3 September, 2000
SMOKESFREE SPONSORED SMOKERS DAY OUT ...
... is all fired up and ready to kick butt this weekend - right across the North Island.
The Day Out - slated in future to be an annual event held on the first Saturday of Sept - is organized by Joy Faulkner of Smokers Of The World Unite, and is supported by the Libertarianz Party.
This event is an opportunity for all smokers to vent their spleen at the nico-nazis; to let them know know we have had enough of their guilt trips their lies and their use of us as a gravy train. It is an opportunity for people who value freedom to support freedom of choice. It is also an opportunity for a great day out!
Volunteers - from factory workers to farmers, from Whangarei to Wellington - will be offering a free cigarette and a flyer until the ciggies run out. 2000 were given away at a similar event in Rotorua in July.
"It is straight-out theft that smokers are singled out for a 'sin tax', simply for Puritanical control freaks to fund their own agendas. It is no better than a protection racket. When a packet of cigarettes costs $10, and the true cost without tax is $2.50, it is no less than theft." So says event organiser Joy Faulkner, a factory worker who will be donating her own cigarettes in the give away.
She points out that smokers cost taxpayers nothing - it is the smokers she says who pay for everyone else. "The nico-nazis' studies say the smoker costs the public heath system $250 million, yet government takes $1.2 billion a year from the smoker and another billion in compliance tax from the Tobacco Industry. It is easy to see why the Helengrad government has been called the Molesworth Mafia!
Joy Faulkner will be smoking at the Auckland event, Sunday Sept 3rd in Aotea Square at 11am. To find your local event keep an eye in the daily papers, or look out for a pall of happy smoke from your town centre.
And remember, let's keep Smokes Free!
