First Annual Smokers’ Day Out!

“The first annual Smokers’ Day Out will be held across New Zealand’s main centres on Sunday Sept 3rd,” announced Smokers’ advocate Joy Faulkner today. Venues and volunteers across the country will be in action on Sept 3rd from 11pm until the cigarettes run out. Thereafter, the first Saturday in Sept every year will see the Day Out repeated.

Smokers Day Out will be sponsored by ‘SmokesFree’ and supported by the Libertarianz Party. As with the successful inaugural event in Rotorua, free fags will be handed out, along with a flyer from the organiser Joy Faulkner of Smokers Of The World Unite. This flyer will explain that the choice to smoke is nobody’s business but the smoker, and suggest ways that smokers can fight back against the Nico-Nazis.

Details of each event will be released shortly, but expect to see busking musicians, cigar smoking enthusiasts, and happy clouds of smoke around each event!

The Auckland event will be held in Aotea Square in conjunction with a heterosexual parade organised by Jim Bagnall of Dad’s Army. All funds raised will contribute to Joy Faulkner’s planned Smokers Fighting Fund.
