Libertarianz Slams Labour’s Defence Review

Libertarianz Slams Labour’s Defence Review, Releases Own

Libertarianz Veterans Affairs Spokesman Michael Murphy today slammed Labour’ s defence review due out today, and suggested instead New Zealanders look to the Libertarianz Defence Review, also released today. Murphy stated we can expect little from Labour’s review, but a lot from the Libz.

“The government is hell-bent on remodelling our defence forces into a United Nations militia,” he says, “into a light infantry force bereft of air support, armour or proper logistics. This govt is intent on relying on the United Nations as an ‘ally,’ an organisation incapable of protecting its own soldiers in Sierra Leone, let alone carrying out the missions it sets participants.”

“Who can blame our real allies for looking on us as a bunch of unreliable bludgers,” he wonders. “It should be obvious from the events of the last few weeks in assorted Pacific Islands that this nation’s defence priorities must be maritime forces, and air forces.”

It is equally obvious from recent events that the Prime Minister has little if any interest in defence: her lack of interest in the loss of seven of the Air Force’s senior pilots (including five instructors); her snubbing of the 1st Battalion’s welcome home parade from East Timor; her lack-lustre address to last week’s R.S.A. conference – all speak volumes of her interest in the defence of this country.

Libertarianz by contrast consider defending its citizens to be one of the key roles of government
