Doctors-New Industrial Law Good For Health Service
“Senior Doctors: New Industrial Law Good For Health Service”
“The government’s new proposed industrial law, the Employment Relations Bill, will be good for the health service including public hospitals,” said Mr Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, today.
The Association, which represents salaried senior doctors including those in public hospitals, made its oral submissions today to the select committee considering the Bill.
“We endorse the focus of the Employment Relations Bill on fairness and productive working relationships between employers and employees based on mutual trust and confidence.”
“The current Employment Contracts Act with its inherent unfairness has encouraged a negative adversarial environment in the health service that has made it more difficult to provide quality patient care.”
“The sooner the adversarial Employment Contracts Act is replaced with the proposed new bill, the better,” concluded Mr Powell.
