POOR FAMILIES NOT A PRIORITY FOR NEW
MINISTER THIS CHRISTMAS
“The Minister of Social
Services will try any excuse to wriggle out of delivering on
promises to the nation’s poor and needy,” says National’s
spokesperson on Work and Income Belinda Vernon.
“Today he’s using the late election date as an excuse for not doing anything for beneficiaries before Christmas.
“This Minister campaigned on a promise to improve the hardship suffered by beneficiaries.
“Now we’re seeing the Dr Jeckyll side of Mr Maharey who refuses to heed the call of his coalition partners to give beneficiaries a Christmas present.
“On the same day that his party pushes through legislation to tax the wealth creators, he ignores the opportunity to pass the gains onto the needy.
“This Government pats itself on the back for delivering on priorities before Christmas, but it seems that poor families are not a priority for this Minister or his government,” said Ms Vernon.
