Alliance welcomes Grey Power’s voting advice

Praise for Grey Power's 'how to vote advice' from Alliance leader Jim Anderton, who says Grey Power has worked out the best way to ensure a strong coalition.

Grey Power is advising its members to vote to change the government, and to vote for a balanced coalition by splitting the 'electorate' and 'party' votes.

It suggests the larger party should get the electorate vote and the smaller party in close affinity should get the party vote.

Jim Anderton says following Grey Power's advice is the best way to ensure a strong coalition to replace the National and Act.

'Grey Power is giving valuable advice which should be taken seriously by the many people who are being confused by greedy parties asking for two votes and by parties who aren't explaining the value of voting tactically to ensure a string coalition.

'A vote to change the government means it cannot be a vote for National, Act or NZ First. National and Act are the same and NZ First admits it could keep National and Act in office from the cross-benches.

'The Alliance is saying that the best to ensure you get a strong coalition which makes a change of government worthwhile is to give the Alliance the party vote.

'If people give their electorate votes to a local candidate from Labour, that will be understandable in many seats because Labour has a good chance of winning over half the electorate seats. The Alliance is likely to win only one electorate seat, so we need the party vote to ensure that we are in the new government in strength. After all, Labour cannot win without a strong party vote for the Alliance,' Jim Anderton said.
