Children Are Political Footballs

Published: Mon 8 Nov 1999 12:11 AM
New Zealand First MP Gilbert Myles says that political parties must stop using children as political footballs.
“To see children promoting a party for this coming election in advertisements is abhorrent to say the very least. New Zealanders should wake and up deplore the actions of these politicians.
“I work with women and children in South Auckland and their plight should never be exploited for political or personal gain. I will personally be writing to the Commissioner of Children, Roger Maclay, to ask his opinion on where the line should be drawn”, said Mr Myles.
“Until children are old enough to have adult status they should not be forced to mouth adult political sentiments”.
