Extend The Term Of The Fisheries Commissioners

Published: Mon 20 Sep 1999 09:54 AM
New Zealand First has called on the Government to extend the term of the current members of the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission.
Cabinet is expected to discuss replacing some Commission members today, at the request of Tau Henare.
Rt Hon Winston Peters said that the term of the Commissioners should be extended six months because a general election is only a few weeks away.
“No such important appointments should be made before the election, and this should be pointed out to Mr Henare at the Cabinet meeting,” said Mr Peters.
