ACT New Zealand Leader Hon Richard Prebble said today that the ACT Party had selected the best list of any party.

"ACT has selected a team of candidates who have proven by their success, in a wide range of activities, that they have leadership ability.

"I believe the battle over the growth of red tape and unelected commissions limiting our rights is one of the major issues of this election. With Stephen Franks in Parliament ACT has the ability to win the debate.

"In the next Parliament it will be a debate between the judicial activism of Labour's Margaret Wilson who believes that unelected judges and politically appointed commissioners should be even more active in interfering in our lives and ACT's Stephen Franks who is a staunch supporter of the rights of citizens, private property rights and the sanctity of contract.

"Who wins this debate will determine whether New Zealand becomes a collectivist state or the land of the free.

"Stephen Franks, in his writing and advocacy, has always strongly supported personal responsibility.

"I regard the ACT Board's selection of Stephen Franks at number three on the Party's list as being symbolic of the importance the ACT Party places on personal responsibility.

"I invite the media to scrutinise ACT's list. Garry Mallett who is last on ACT's list is a successful young businessman and a leading City Councillor in Hamilton.

"Gary Mallett is more talented than most of the front bench of either major party and he is last on ACT's list, a position of great honour.

"ACT candidates, like Gary Mallett, stand for ACT not to reach office or position, but because they believe in ACT's vision.

"I am proud to be heading a party where we can attract candidates of Gary Mallet's calibre," said ACT New Zealand Leader Hon Richard Prebble.
