The Alliance has revealed that the CEO of WINZ has spent $25,000 making videos of herself at the taxpayers expense.
Since November 1998 five videos have been made at a total cost of 25,683 a parliamentary question asked by Grant Gillon has revealed.
'One of these videos featured Christine Rankin alongside Martin Luther King and Ghandi, I shudder to think how the other videos portray Christine Rankin,' Alliance Social Security spokesperson Grant Gillon said.
'This $25,000 is on top of all th e other conference expenses WINZ has used taxpayers money for. It is also just the production cost and not the distribution costs.
'Rankin says she considers this method to be one of the most effective ways to communicating to large numbers of staff across the country. Has she never heard of email, faxes or letters?
'I suspect that a video is a more glamorous method of communication that fits nicely with Christine Rankin's preferred management style than an! y cost effective way to informing staff.
'The merger of WINZ has resulted in worse customer service, redundancies and extravagant spending.
'WINZ has been denying benefits to the poorest people in New Zealand while at the same time spending up large promoting itself.
'I suspect this extravagant spending will not stop until Christine Rankin is fired,' Grant Gillon said.
