National Asks Teachers To Do More With Less Pay

National is asking teachers to do more while paying them less.

“The many women marching across the country last week didn’t need a tutor to figure out how much less they are paid than men in similar work,” Labour education spokesperson Willow-Jean Prime said.

“But if the Government needs another reminder: it’s around eight percent.

“Maths is an important aspect of our kids’ education and there should be good resourcing for it. But when you’re asking teachers, who are mostly women, to do more while picking their pockets – what message is National sending our kids?

“Education Minister Erica Stanford needs to front up and explain why she believes women, particularly those who are teachers, should be paid less than men. We are all waiting to hear it,” Willow-Jean Prime said.
