Te Pāti Māori Make Submission To Privileges Committee In Absentia
Te Pāti Māori has made their official submission to the Privileges Committee in a written format for today’s hearing.
“A written submission qualifies as having attended the hearing and as such, we have fulfilled our obligations according to standing orders, and we expect our submission to be treated as such, said Te Pāti Māori Co-leader, Rawiri Waititi.
On the matter of not turning up physically, Waititi says, “Why would we? We know the outcomes have been pre-determined. We know that we will not have the right to a fair process. We know, they don’t want to hear our side of the story so why would we participate physically in a process that is designed to be a mana diminishing process.”
“We intend to continue with our own hearing on May 7th. This will be broadcasted live to the public. We are determined to tell our own story, our way, without being gaslit or shackled,” said Te Pāti Māori Co-leader, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer.
Te Pāti Māori will announce details of their Privileges Committee hearing on May 7th in the next few days.
