Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives appointed

Suze Jones has been appointed Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives. Her appointment took effect today, 11 February 2019, for a term of seven years.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Trevor Mallard said, Suze was previously Clerk Assistant (House), whose responsibilities include Hansard, Māori language services, House business, parliamentary law and practice, broadcasting and business continuity.
“Suze has built up significant procedural expertise through leading services to the House” Mr Mallard said.
She has been in the Office of the Clerk since 2009, and has worked as a clerk of select committees and in the Table Office, dealing with legislation, questions to Ministers, petitions and other business of the House. Suze also led the Office of the Clerk’s corporate services team. She is a proud graduate of the University of Otago, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 1993.
The appointment was welcomed by Clerk of the House of Representatives, David Wilson. “I’ve worked with Suze for many years and am delighted to have her as my deputy. She has the mix of leadership skills and procedural knowledge that are essential for the role” Mr Wilson said.
The Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives is statutory officer, appointed by warrant by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Speaker, after consultation with the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and other party leaders.
