Labour’s nanny state streak showing
The Labour Party’s inner nanny statist has reared its head with MP Louisa Wall saying today that smoking should be banned inside people’s homes.
“Politicians of all stripes have looked at ordinary people as fodder for social engineering, rather than thinking and valuing beings in their own right, says ACT Leader David Seymour.
“Whether it’s telling New Zealanders what to think, say, or eat, governments have single-mindedly pursued ideological goals and individual freedoms have been trampled in the process.
“But the only rightful goal of regulation can be the prevention of harm to others. The state should not try to prevent actions that only affect the person taking them.
“Banning people from smoking inside their own homes would be a serious invasion of privacy.
“ACT believes that people are ends in themselves, not clay to be molded in the hands of politicians and bureaucrats.”
