Aged care quality and health focus for Australian Senate visit to New Zealand
Next week, a delegation from the Australian Senate Community Affairs Legislation and References Committee is visiting
New Zealand, 24 to 29 September 2018. The visit is part of an annual exchange of select committees between the New
Zealand and Australian Parliaments.
The delegation of four is led by the Chair of Community Affairs References Committee Senator Rachel Siewert and will
directly support their inquiry into aged care quality assessment. The visit will also contribute to the committee’s
ongoing work in relation to disability, welfare reform, therapeutic goods, mental health, and aged care. One of the
committee’s objectives is to investigate the provision of culturally appropriate aged care.
New Zealand’s Speaker, Rt Hon Trevor Mallard, is pleased to host this visit.

knowledge sharing between our Parliaments and strengthen legislative quality, inquiry, and scrutiny work of our
respective committees. ”
The delegation will arrive in Wellington on Monday evening before progressing on to Auckland on Friday.
At Parliament, the delegation will meet with a number of Ministers with portfolio responsibilities in their areas of
interest, and Members of the New Zealand Parliament, including the Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Social
Services and Community, Health, and Māori Affairs committees.
Over the course of the week, they will also engage with the Human Rights Commission, the Health Quality and Safety
Commission, the Mental Health and Addiction Inquiry, the New Zealand Aged Care Association, the Auckland District Health
Board, and the University of Auckland’s School of Population Health.
