PRESS RELEASE

Young political and policy leaders visit to broaden understanding of New Zealand
Seven young political and policy leaders from the USA are visiting New Zealand this week.
The cross-party group from Alabama, Idaho, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, Washington DC and Virginia are here as part of the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) exchange.
Their trip will include meeting the Speaker and MPs, visiting Parliament and talking to the Electoral Commission and public sector, business, trade union and education organisations.
This visit follows a New Zealand parliamentary delegation who visited the United States in March this year, to learn more about the American political system at both federal and state level.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Trevor Mallard, says the exchange allows attendees to learn from their inter-parliamentary colleagues.
“The programme will enable these young Americans from different political parties to get to know New Zealand better, learn about our democratic processes and broaden their understanding of Kiwi culture and international relations.”
The delegation arrives on Saturday 11 August for a nine day visit.
