Have your say on changes to accident compensation legislation
The Education and Workforce Committee is seeking public submissions on legislation that aims to improve the way the
Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) scheme works.
The ACC scheme was set up to support New Zealanders recovering from injury, including income, treatment, and
rehabilitation costs.
The Accident Compensation Amendment Bill seeks to fix gaps, errors, and inconsistencies within the Accident Compensation
Act 2001, and between the New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Act 2001 and the Veterans’ Support Act 2014.
This includes entitlements for injured people nearing retirement age, surviving spouses, veterans, and for New Zealand
families posted overseas.
It aims to make minor and technical changes to improve the efficiency of how the ACC scheme works. The bill proposes to
disestablish the Accident Compensation Appeal Authority.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment identified the proposed amendments through its work programme that
reviews the regulatory systems for legislation that it administers.
