Chinese Company Withdrawal Welcomed by New Zealand First
New Zealand First is delighted at news reports that Ed Pinckney’s bid for Jericho Station is expected to be successful as a result of Chinese company Qianlong withdrawing its bid to Landcorp overnight.
“It’s a relief that we can keep prime New Zealand farmland in Kiwi hands. Mr Pinckney is an experienced Southland farmer who submitted a very comprehensive plan with a very reasonable offer,” says Mark Patterson, New Zealand First spokesperson for Land Information, Agriculture and Primary Industry.
“I have been a vocal opponent of this transaction. Considering the $200,000 difference in offer, this should not have been such a convoluted process. The protracted twelve month timeframe has unnecessarily impacted on Mr Pinckney’s ability to purchase stock and make winter feed provisions.”
“This Government has made the right decision to tighten the rules around overseas interests purchasing farmland and this is a positive outcome from that decision.”
