Have your say on changes to the Corrections Act
Have your say on changes to the Corrections ActThis Bill includes a suite of amendments to the Corrections Act 2004.
The main aims of this bill
are to:
• improve the ability of the Department of
Corrections (the department) to safely and humanely manage
prisoners:
• improve prisoner discipline and
safety:
• ensure the fair treatment of
prisoners.
Overall, the Act and the regulations continue
to provide a sound legislative framework for the corrections
system. However, some areas need modernisation or greater
clarity.
Parliament’s Justice Committee will now be considering the bill. Committee chairperson Raymond Huo encourages those with views on the legislation to share these with the committee.
“We look forward to hearing the views of New Zealanders on this bill so that we can make well-informed decisions about what changes, if any, are necessary to be made to it.”
