Have your say on the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill
The purpose of the bill is to amend the Electoral Act 1993 so that it upholds the proportionality of political party
representation in Parliament as chosen by electors in the most recent general election.
The key change is that the seat of a member may become vacant when the member ceases to be, or chooses not be, a
parliamentary member of the political party for which he or she was elected.
Parliament’s Justice Committee will now be considering the bill. Committee chairperson Raymond Huo encourages people
with views on how the bill can be improved to share these with the committee.
“We want to hear the public’s views on the bill so the committee can make informed decisions about whether any changes
are needed to improve it.”
