New Wainuiomata Retirement Village fantastic news
Tuesday, 23 January 2018
“The new retirement village in Wainuiomata, announced today by the Masonic Villages Trust, is fantastic news for Wainuiomata”, says MP for Hutt South Chris Bishop
“The need for a retirement village in Wainuiomata has been one of the top issues raised with me by Wainuiomata residents since becoming a MP in 2014, so I am absolutely delighted by today’s news.
“Many Wainuiomata seniors have been forced to move into retirement villages over the hill, when they would prefer to remain near to friends, family and loved ones. Today’s news means that that will now be a reality in the not too distant future.
“The new village is also great news for the regeneration of the Wainuiomata town centre. 200 new residents will be living near the centre of Wainuiomata and this should give Progressive Enterprises great confidence as they work up plans for the redevelopment of the mall.
“I’d like to pay tribute to everyone who has worked so hard to make today’s announcement happen – particularly Mayor Wallace, Councillors Barry, Briggs and former Councillor Willard, and Greypower Wainuiomata.
“The new village wouldn’t be happening without the massive investment by the Masonic Villages Trust. Community leaders have regularly lobbied them to invest in Wainuiomata. They have listened, and we say a hearty thanks!”
