You have until Friday 16 February 2018 to have your say on the Brokering (Weapons and Related Items) Controls Bill.

The Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee is now inviting submissions on the Brokering (Weapons and Related Items) Controls Bill.

The purpose of the bill is to prevent New Zealanders and New Zealand entities from brokering weapons to illegitimate users or undesirable destinations. Brokering involves negotiating, arranging, or facilitating the movement of arms and military equipment from one foreign country to another.

The bill seeks to establish a regime to regulate the brokering of weapons and related items by New Zealanders and New Zealand entities. To broker weapons the person would need to be registered as a broker and have a permit to do so.
