Dowie named spokesperson for Early Childhood Education

Sarah Dowie, MP for Invercargill, has been appointed spokesperson for Early Childhood Education by National Party Leader Bill English.

“Early Childhood Education is a portfolio I am passionate about. As the mother of two young children I am a strong advocate for the benefits of Early Childhood Education,” Ms Dowie says.

“I will hold the Government to account and ensure the settings are right to give our children the best start. The first 1000 days of a child’s life are the most important for their development and Early Childhood Education is such a vital part of that development.

“The number of children participating in Early Childhood Education before starting school increased under National to 96.7 per cent in 2016 – an increase of 2 per cent since March 2011. I will be pushing the Government to maintain that success.

“I am proud to be part of a strong and loyal Opposition. I continue to be ambitious for New Zealand – and the National Party remains committed to building a stronger, more confident and more prosperous nation.

“I will work tirelessly to ensure young children can achieve their hopes and dreams. This is only possible if New Zealand continues to succeed and New Zealanders continue to get ahead. I will hold the current Government to account on any decisions that place that progress at risk.”
