Have your say on the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations
You have until Friday 20 July 2017 to have your say on the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER Plus).
The Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee is inviting submissions on the PACER Plus agreement. The committee expects to hear oral submissions in the week beginning 24 July 2017.
On 14 June 2017, Australia, the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Tuvalu signed the PACER Plus agreement. The trade and development agreement aims to create jobs and wealth in the Pacific by making it easier for these countries to trade and attract investment.
The agreement will use trade as an engine of economic growth and sustainable economic development to:
· Alleviate poverty
· Increase the living standards of Pacific people
· Meet the UN sustainable development goals.
