Simon Bridges wins Oscar for Best Corporate Welfarist
$304 million in grants for the film industry is corporate welfare that should have been used on tax cuts, says ACT David Seymour.
“Simon Bridges just won the Oscar for Best Corporate Welfarist, boasting about giving hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to the likes of Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox.
“Maybe he’s hoping he’ll get to meet Scarlett Johansson. The person he should meet is the average taxpayer who will be spewing to hear their tax is going to cashed-up foreign companies.
“Politicians shouldn’t be singling out specific industries or businesses for handouts. New Zealand’s agricultural sectors only achieved their full potential when the Government stepped back and let them stand on their own feet.
“The fact Labour doesn’t criticise this business bribery proves that they’re just as bad. ACT is left as the only party saying taxpayers shouldn’t fund business.
“Yesterday ACT announced we would return this kind of corporate welfare to the taxpayer. With more MPs after the election, we will cut waste and fight for a 25% company tax and top personal tax rate.”
