MAORI SOVEREIGNTY CLAIM TO POLICE HAS NO PLACE
No one in this country can claim they are immune from the laws of New Zealand on the grounds of Māori sovereignty, says
Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Police must come down with the full force of the law on the driver who refused a breath test, backed into a police car,
had ‘sovereignty’ number plates, and had five unrestrained children in his car on Kaitaia’s main street, as reported in
the Northland Age.
“There is one set of traffic laws for all in New Zealand and everyone must abide by that.
“It was regrettable that police were ‘frightened’ off when ‘all hell broke loose’.
“This is further evidence that we need far greater police resources to stamp out this behaviour,” says Mr Peters.
