Have your say on the Rates Rebate (Retirement Village Residents) Amendment Bill
Public submissions are now open on the Rates Rebate (Retirement Village Residents) Amendment Bill, which is being considered by the Local Government and Environment Committee.
The bill aims to ensure that people who pay rates and live in retirement villages with occupation rights agreements are able to apply for a rates rebate. To do this, it proposes to amend the definition of “ratepayer” in the Rates Rebate Act 1973.
The Chairperson of the Local Government and Environment Committee, Scott Simpson, says “I am looking forward to working on this bill with the committee, and give the member in charge absolute assurance that we will make it a good piece of legislation”.
