Minister Must Act on Claims of Fraud And Mistreatment of Amputees
Acting ACC Minister Nathan Guy had no answers when amputee mistreatment and allegations of fraud by an ACC supplier were raised by New Zealand First in Parliament today.
“Amputees are suffering from the substandard work done by an ACC preferred supplier and there is evidence taxpayers have been ripped off,” says ACC Spokesperson Barbara Stewart.
“Many amputees have suffered further mental and physical harm from ill-fitting limbs, but ACC has refused to listen.
“An advocate for amputees, who investigated issues, has pointed to $50,000 in fraud through the duplication of invoices and charging for non-existent appointments and work that was never done. The advocate believes artificial limbs were re-used and ACC was billed for new components.
“The Minister must immediately investigate on behalf of amputees and the taxpayer.”
