Obama, like Key, Desperate for a TPPA Legacy
By his last ditch courting of big business to keep TPPA alive President Barack Obama is like his golfing buddy John Key
– he’s desperate to find a legacy, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston
Peters.
“Earlier this year we had the nauseating TPPA signing at Sky City in Auckland which was a choreographed extravaganza to
promote the Key government.
“Since then both US presidential candidates Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump declared they would dump the TPPA.
“Now in his death rattle as president, Barack Obama is making pathetic pleas to big corporates in the United States, and
no doubt his fellow mate of big business John Key will be urging him on all the way.
“Both of them are flogging a dead horse.
“The ordinary citizens of both the United States and New Zealand realise the TPPA will only benefit major corporations.
“It would be a disaster for New Zealand making us vulnerable to paying millions of dollars in compensation to
international corporations when they consider our laws might hurt their profits, and we are subject to the finding of an
overseas tribunal of lawyers ruling in their favour,” Mr Peters says.
