From Denial to Closure in a Week; SFF Can’t Be Trusted
Silver Fern Farms has gone from denial one week to announcing the closure of two plants the next, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Company shareholders who okayed the deal with Shanghai Maling were warned by NZ First what would happen – and it has.
“Many in the rural community will now be waking up to understand what this sale really means.
“If the company had a shred of integrity they would have made their intentions to close known sooner.
“Now families and the communities of Mossburn and Wairoa will suffer.
“Once again the propaganda merchants at Silver Fern Farms are promising a workforce alternative employment.
“That will probably be a mirage and meanwhile where is the economic relief for Mossburn and Wairoa, losing critical employers in their small communities.
“Giving workers the option of travelling to work at other plants is not practicable since they are too far away from the plants earmarked for closure.
“And what has happened to the sale to Shanghai Maling; it has gone very quiet?” Mr Peters says.
