Pasifika wins big in Auckland
elections
The Labour Party’s Pacific Candidates who stood for local elections in Auckland came out on top with 14 winners, says Labour’s Pacific Island Affairs spokesperson Su’a William Sio.
“Our candidates have won seats on one ward, four local boards, two licensing trusts and the Counties Manukau District Health Board, with two candidates winning two different positions.
“This is a tremendous result and reflects the confidence the Pasifika community has in the Labour Party as a party for working class New Zealanders. They value a party that stands for all New Zealanders, the right to a home of their own, the best public education system for our children, and a health system that serves everyone.
“I’m absolutely proud of the way Labour’s Pacific candidates campaigned in Auckland. They all conducted themselves with dignity, spoke the truth, and were rewarded by the community with a resounding win.
“These are truly the future leaders of our Pasifika communities and the Labour Party’s Pacific Caucus are extremely proud of this new group of Pacific leaders coming through our ranks.
“As I’ve always said this is a group that belong to the new generation of New Zealanders that I call the young, beautiful and gifted. They are New Zealand educated, bilingual, smart and extremely talented,” says Su’a William Sio.
